Fellowship Piano Program

The Fellowship Piano Program provides an immersive musical experience for two pianists on the retreat-like setting of Madeline Island. Under the guidance of award-winning pianist Wendy Chen, participants have the opportunity to collaborate and perform with violinist Jonathan Swartz, violist Sabina Thatcher, cellist Andrés Díaz, along with Fellowship String Quartets. This fully funded program includes daily private lessons, coaching of piano four-hands chamber music, community engagement activities, and performance opportunities.

Eligibility

Pianists ages 18-24 or currently enrolled full-time at a college, university, or conservatory 

Tuition and Fees 

  • Application fee: $100
    • Early bird application fee through December 1: $75
  • Tuition, Room, and Board: All participants receive full scholarship to attend, which includes tuition, room and board, thanks to the generosity of Madeline Island Chamber Music donors
  • Residential fee: $320, due at the time of acceptance 
  • Students are responsible for the cost of transportation to the program*

Program Outline 

  • Intensive study and performance of piano chamber music 
  • Private instruction and chamber music coaching 
  • Weekly public performances 
  • Ensemble master classes 
  • Presentations and demonstrations by the faculty on topics such as quartet rehearsal techniques, 21st century artistic life, and pathways to success

Application Requirements

Video auditions are required for all applicants and must be uploaded directly to the Acceptd application prior to the submission deadline.

Letter of recommendation from current teacher or chamber music coach

Audition Requirements for Individuals

5-8 minutes of solo repertoire consisting of two works contrasting in style and tempo (representative excerpts of longer movements are accepted)

Includes 2 hours of scheduled individual practice, 2 hours of scheduled chamber music rehearsal, and 1 hour of chamber music coaching
